Al-Kuma: Saleh Haririn – In the shelters where the displaced people of the town of Al-Kuma in North Darfur have settled, thousands of citizens who fled the horrors of the Sudanese army’s bombardment of the cities and villages of the region are living. Almost every day, citizens and displaced people alike are forced to flee towards neighboring valleys, seeking safety under the shade of trees, amid harsh conditions and complete neglect by local, regional and international organizations.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Since the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023, Al-Kouma has been subjected to 92 airstrikes, during which 273 civilians, including women, were killed, in addition to hundreds of wounded.<\/span><\/h1>\n

When you stand in the heart of the valleys surrounding Al-Kouma, you can easily see the despair on the faces of women and children who fled the army’s barrel bombs, and they have reached the point of fear and resignation to the inevitable fate, in the absence of a party that speaks for them, no local or foreign media mentions them, and they seem to know that they are invisible except to their enemy who repeatedly and routinely drops barrel bombs on them.<\/span><\/h1>\n

It is unfortunate that no one is there to monitor these crimes committed by the army aircraft, no one is there to photograph and report what happened, leaving the citizens of Al-Kouma to their fate in the face of genocide and ethnic cleansing in which the army has gone a long way, as it throws its barrel bombs on citizens’ markets and homes, and no one hears the moans of mothers and the cries of children victims of repeated bombardment.<\/span><\/h1>\n

In al-Kouma, food is distributed to families affected by the airstrikes after they stand in long lines for hours, waiting for food that is not enough to meet their needs, adding an additional burden to their mental and physical health.<\/span><\/h1>\n

A medical source from Al-Kuma Rural Hospital reported that the rate of abortions among pregnant women has risen alarmingly, from one day old to 7 months old, with the total number of abortions reaching 47. The source revealed that cases arrived at the hospital with symptoms of swelling and bloating, which is suspected to be a result of the army’s use of toxic chemicals.<\/span><\/h1>\n

The small town of al-Kouma lacks the most basic services, with no water, electricity, roads, or institutions. There is no army or RSF center. Nothing but simple and helpless citizens, crying out for help, calling on the international community to intervene and save them from the army’s barrel bombs, and asking only for their right to life to be guaranteed.<\/span><\/h1>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
