Khartoum: Rhino – On Saturday, December 14, 2024, on the Export Road, a dairy truck was fatally attacked near Muwailah market and east of Sheikh Ahmed Dome, leaving 15 people dead and 6 wounded, while 2 people are still missing, the Sudanese Emergency Lawyers Initiative (SELI) said on Monday. \u201cThe vehicle was transporting barrels of milk from cows’ stalls in surrounding villages to the Muwailih area, when it suddenly broke down and became the target of an armed attack carried out by an army drone.<\/span><\/h1>\n

In a statement on Monday, the emergency lawyers emphasized that the attack occurred after the vehicle broke down, according to eyewitness testimonies and local reports, to be directly targeted despite its obvious civilian nature. \u201cPreliminary evidence indicates that the victims were only shepherds and dairy workers, which makes this incident a crime against civilians,\u201d the statement said.<\/span><\/h1>\n

The emergency lawyers emphasized that the attack is a serious violation of Common Article 3 of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and Additional Protocol II, which prohibits the targeting of civilians and civilian objects during armed conflicts. It also contradicts the principle of distinction, which obliges all parties to a conflict to distinguish between civilians and combatants.<\/span><\/h1>\n
