UNITED NATIONS: Rhino – Two Sudanese activists emphasized the need to stop the war and the \u201cfree death\u201d that is claiming the lives of Sudanese and stressed the need to achieve justice and hold those responsible for the crimes and grave violations rampant in the ongoing war in Sudan accountable.<\/span><\/h1>\n

The United Nations headquarters in New York hosted a ministerial meeting entitled: \u201cThe Cost of Inaction in Sudan.\u201d The meeting was organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The meeting was organized by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and UNHCR with Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United States of America, and the African and European Union.<\/span><\/h1>\n

The UN and member states called for enhanced action to end the war and increase humanitarian efforts in Sudan and the region.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Sudanese activist Nisreen Elsayem, former chair of the UN Advisory Panel on Climate Change, spoke at the event. Her speech was followed by applause from officials, delegates and attendees expressing their appreciation and support. In an interview with UN News following the meeting, she said that through her speech she tried to draw attention to the fact that the statistics on the war in Sudan \u201care not just numbers, they are real people living this issue.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

She noted that the \u201csignificant failure\u201d to support the transitional government in Sudan was one of the main causes of the war, noting that the transitional government received \u201cmany, many promises but they were delayed.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

Al-Saeem highlighted the contributions of youth in emergency rooms and their humanitarian efforts and called for people-centered humanitarian aid that reaches the needy directly without intermediaries and called for the localization of humanitarian work.<\/span><\/h1>\n

She called on the international community to pressure the parties that support both sides of the conflict to dry up the sources of arms and funding, saying that the war is destined to end, \u201cbut the question is when and at what cost.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

She said that the main slogan of the Sudanese youth during \u201cthe December revolution was freedom, peace and justice, and that they deserve to live in a healthy state that guarantees their rights so that they can fulfill their duties towards the state.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

For his part, Sudanese lawyer Moniem Adam emphasized that the situation in Sudan represents one of the devastating situations over the past three decades, noting that Sudan has always been one of the most difficult areas to look at from a human rights perspective, including the human rights violations and crimes that occur.<\/span><\/h1>\n

Adam told UN News that impunity is prevalent in Sudan \u201cbecause the international community has not allocated enough funding to address this, not enough pressure, not enough diplomacy to support the Sudanese people.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

Adam added that the current war is one of the most egregious situations, especially in Darfur, but said that the international community \u201cdoes not have the will to provide support because it is reluctant to call on the warring parties in Sudan to stop the war as well as the regional powers that support the warring parties in Sudan.\u201d<\/span><\/h1>\n

He emphasized the need to stop the war as soon as possible so that the Sudanese people can return to their homes and also to be able to achieve justice and possibly accountability in the future.<\/span><\/h1>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
