{"id":12146,"date":"2024-08-17T20:30:44","date_gmt":"2024-08-17T18:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rhinosd.net\/?p=12146"},"modified":"2024-08-17T20:30:44","modified_gmt":"2024-08-17T18:30:44","slug":"us-envoy-we-will-move-forward-with-geneva-talks-regardless-of-how","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rhinosd.net\/?p=12146&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"US envoy: We will move forward with Geneva talks regardless of how"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">Rhino: Agencies &#8211; The US envoy, Tom Perriello, said that the Geneva ceasefire and aid delivery negotiations in Sudan will continue through \u2018close virtual talks,\u2019 after the Sudanese army refused to attend the Geneva negotiations that started on Wednesday, and a delegation of the Rapid Support attended instead, and added: \u2018We will move forward with the Geneva talks regardless of how.\u2019<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In an interview with Radio Dabanga on Friday from Geneva, the US envoy said that their contacts as mediators with the Sudanese army continue several times a day, as a team and as individuals, adding: \u2018We live in a modern world, where we can find ways to consult as we have done before and move forward.\u2019<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u2018We also communicate regularly with both the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces through phone calls and other means,\u2019 he said in the interview, which will be broadcast in full on Monday on Radio Dabanga.<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">\u00a0\u2018In today&#8217;s modern world, we can continue these negotiations, and we will continue to do everything we can based on things like the opening of the Adra crossing, and how to ensure that translates into immediate results.<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">On whether the Sudanese army will send a delegation to Geneva, the US envoy said, \u2018We don&#8217;t have that commitment yet from the army leadership, which is tragic.\u2019 He continued, \u2018We are in contact with the Sudanese army several times a day.<\/span><\/h1>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">In the interview, the US envoy revealed that they would have preferred President Al-Burhan to send a high-level delegation from the army to Geneva. \u2018I think we would have been able to make more progress on the issue of the cessation of hostilities.
