Sudan’s Ambassador to UAE: Port Sudan authority does not express the will of our people

Rhino: Agencies – The Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to the United Arab Emirates, Abdulrahman Sharafi, expressed on Wednesday his categorical rejection of what he described as “the declaration issued by the Islamist junta in Port Sudan,” to cut diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, and withdraw Sudan’s embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai, which was announced on May 6, 2025, considering that it was issued by a party that lacks legitimacy and does not represent the true will of the Sudanese people.

Sharafi said in a statement that relations between Sudan and the UAE span decades of close cooperation and mutual understanding, and are well-established relations based on respect and common interests. Such rhetoric cannot touch the essence of these exemplary historical relations.

He continued: “From this point of view, I emphasize that I continue my work as the legitimate and official ambassador of Sudan to the United Arab Emirates and do not recognize the decision issued to terminate my work because it was issued by a party that does not have legitimacy and does not represent the Sudanese people, noting that the decision to nominate me to work as ambassador was issued by the government of the glorious December Revolution and from this perspective I announce that the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai continue their work and provide their services to the Sudanese community in the United Arab Emirates as usual, without any change or interruption, in the interest of the country’s higher interests and for the sake of the interests of the Sudanese community

The ambassador’s statement read: “I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude and appreciation to the leadership and people of the United Arab Emirates for the humanitarian support and generous assistance they have provided to the Sudanese people, especially in light of the difficult circumstances our country is going through. I also commend the generous care enjoyed by the Sudanese community in the UAE, which reflects the depth of the fraternal ties between our two peoples, and I call for the voice of reason and wisdom to prevail and work to strengthen bilateral relations in order to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.”
