Lufthansa suspends night flights to and from Beirut due to the situation in the Middle East

Rhino: Agencies – A Lufthansa spokesman said on Monday that the airline will suspend night flights to and from Beirut until 31 July due to the situation in the Middle East.

The change began on 29 June, and daytime flights will operate at their usual time, the spokesman added.

Swiss International Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, announced that it would change its night flights to and from Beirut to daytime until the end of July due to political developments on the border between Lebanon and Israel. The airline did not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

In March, the Lebanese government announced its intention to file an urgent complaint to the UN Security Council over what it says is Israeli interference with Lebanese systems, which it says affects the safety of civil aviation in the airspace of Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport.

Swiss International Airlines said on Monday that the change in its flight schedule was unrelated to any possible GPS interference on its Beirut-bound planes.

“Our pilots are trained to deal with such situations, and our aircraft have several other systems on board for when one system is unreliable,” a spokesperson said.

He added that in the past the cabin crew did not stay overnight in Lebanon when travelling from Zurich, but remained on board while preparing for the return flight.
