England survive Slovakia’s trap with a dramatic win

Rhino: Agencies – England survived a dramatic Euro 2024 exit after turning the tables on Slovakia with a 2-1 win on Sunday to set up a date with Switzerland in the quarter-finals.

Ivan Schranz scored the game’s first goal in the 25th minute, before the English responded through Jude Billingham (90+5) and Harry Kane (91).

With plenty of attempts, Slovakia took the lead through Schranz after he received a silky pass from Strelik inside the box, before placing the ball into the far-right corner of Pickford’s net.

The start of the second half saw an early goal from Foden to level the score, but the referee cancelled it out after VAR showed that he was offside when Trippier passed the ball to him.

England took full control of the game in the final minutes as Slovakia retreated, hoping to protect Dubravka’s goal from conceding a goal.

England’s players were unable to find a suitable way to reach Dubravka’s net until the 90th minute (+5), when Billingham met a header from Juhi’s header with a scissor kick and scored a deadly equalizer, sending the two teams to two extra halves.

The first overtime period saw an early goal for England as Kane met an aerial ball with a header to give the Three Lions their first lead of the game.
