Media: Control of a fire that killed 12 people in Turkey

Rhino: Agencies – Turkish media reported on Saturday that authorities have controlled a fire that broke out on farmland, killing 12 people and injuring 78 others in an area close to Turkey’s borders with Syria and Iraq.

The local governor’s office said the fire started late Thursday due to burning straw and spread due to strong winds. Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunç wrote in a post on the X platform on Friday that authorities had launched an investigation to determine the cause.

NTV and other media outlets reported that the fire was under control and that authorities were working to cool the burned areas. The channel reported that a large number of animals died after being trapped in the blaze.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said late on Friday that the treatment of the injured was ongoing, with some in critical condition.

“We are continuing the treatment and follow-up of five of our injured. “Three of our five injured who are receiving treatment in Diyarbakir are breathing through tubes.

Burning straw is a common practice among farmers and villagers in the Central Anatolia region after harvest periods.
