Plane carrying Malawi’s vice president goes missing

Rhino: Malawi’s presidency said today (Monday) that a plane carrying Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine others has disappeared.
‘All efforts by aviation authorities to contact the aircraft since it disappeared from radar screens have so far been unsuccessful,’ Malawi’s Office of the President and Cabinet said in a statement, according to Reuters news agency.
Chilima, 51, was on a Malawi Defense Force aircraft that left the capital Lilongwe at 09:17 local time (07:17 GMT), the statement said, adding that search and rescue operations are ongoing. President Lazarus Chakwera ordered regional and national forces to conduct an ‘immediate search and rescue operation to locate the aircraft’, the statement said. Chakwera cancelled a planned working visit to the Bahamas, AFP reporte.
