Rhino: Follow-up – The Sudanese army committed a bloody massacre today, Sunday, in the Ghara al-Zawiya area of North Darfur, killing 40 civilians, including four leaders of local administrations, as was scheduled for today. Local sources reported earlier today that more than 37 civilians were killed and dozens injured after a Sudanese Army drone targeted the Gharat al-Zawiya courthouse in North Darfur State.
The sources said the drone targeted a gathering of civilians inside the courthouse, resulting—according to preliminary information—in the deaths of more than 37 people, including women and children, and the injury of a large number of citizens, among them the chief justice.
The online newspaper Al-Jamaheer quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the strike targeted the Gharat al-Zawiya court during a session attended by members of the Al-Fur tribe, and that local administrative officials were attempting to intervene to resolve a dispute that had arisen among the Al-Fur tribe.
Witnesses confirmed that the preliminary death toll included four tribal leaders, two religious figures, and two Rapid Support Forces officers.
Sources described the humanitarian situation at the scene as “extremely tragic,” noting that the victims’ remains were scattered across the area, while response teams faced significant difficulties in evacuating the wounded and providing necessary medical care due to limited medical resources and transportation.
