Bloomberg: Sudan’s military deepens ties with Russia and Iran as civil war rages

Rhino: Bloomberg News has confirmed that Moscow will open a petrol station on the Sudanese coast in exchange for weapons for the Sudanese army as it looks to Western rivals for support in the conflict that has been raging since April last year.
The Sudanese military said it is preparing to receive weapons from Russia in exchange for allowing Moscow to set up a military refuelling station on the Red Sea coast, a blow to the US as its rivals gain influence in the civil war-torn African country.
Sudan’s Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces Yasser al-Atta told Gulf-based Al-Hadath TV on Saturday that a military delegation would be travelling to Russia in a few days to finalize the deal. He said the authorities would receive ‘vital weapons and ammunition’ and described the planned Russian base as ‘not exactly a military base’.
