Sudanese government refuses to grant US envoy a visa

Rhino: Agencies – US envoy to Sudan Tom Perriello revealed on Tuesday that the Sudanese government has been blocking his entry into the country to meet with a wide range of Sudanese civilians, including members of civil society, resistance committees, local response networks, women, youth and other grassroots organisations and parties, to hear their views on how to strengthen efforts to end the conflict.
Addressing a meeting in the Ugandan capital Kampala on Tuesday, Brillo said he had been trying to travel to Sudan for three months, but the Sudanese government refused to grant him a visa.
The US State Department Spokesperson’s Office announced on Monday that Special Envoy for Sudan Tom Perriello is leaving for Uganda, Kenya, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to meet with key regional partners to advance efforts to end the conflict in Sudan, avoid further mass atrocities, address the urgent and severe humanitarian needs of the Sudanese people, and chart a path to a transition to a civilian-led democratic government.
Special Envoy Tom Perriello will meet with partner governments to coordinate diplomatic efforts to restart negotiations, build pressure to protect civilians and silence weapons, and facilitate a transition to a civilian-led democratic government, the US State Department said in a statement on Monday.
