Saudi Arabia’s miracle referee to officiate Champions League final

Rhino: Agencies – UEFA announced on Monday the referee who will officiate the UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid at Wembley Stadium in London on 1 June.

Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić (44), who has been an international since 2010, will be accompanied by compatriots Nijk Kajtazović and Rade Obrenović as VAR assistants.

Slovenians Tomaz Klannik and Andraz Kovacic will serve as assistants, while Frenchmen François Letxier and Cyril Mugnier will act as fourth official and reserve assistant referee.

The Slovenian referee has never taken charge of a Real Madrid match, but he has officiated one game for Dortmund this season, in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Atlético Madrid, which the yellow side won 4-2.

The Slovenian referee also officiated the UEFA Nations League semi-final between Spain and Italy last summer, in which Luis de la Fuente’s side progressed to the final (2-1).

At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he officiated the match between Saudi Arabia and Argentina (2-1).
