Sudanese Foreign Ministry denies reports of banning passports of some ethnic groups

Khartoum: Rhino – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied reports that the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala refused to issue passports to Sudanese youths, citing their tribal affiliation. It said in a press statement on Thursday that what was circulated on social media on Wednesday that the Civil Registry and Passport Mission at the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala refused to start the procedures of issuing passports to a group of Sudanese youth because of their tribal origins classified as “social incubators for the Rapid Support forces”.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that passport issuance procedures are done individually and electronically, and that there is no room for collective treatment based on the tribe of the applicants.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have the authority to ban the passport of any Sudanese citizen, as the issuance of passports is not within its jurisdiction.

For its part, the Transitional Sovereignty Council denied what was stated in a letter widely circulated on social media about the review of Sudanese nationality and national number for a number of tribes in western Sudan, describing the letter as fabricated and baseless.

The Sovereignty Council confirmed in a statement on Thursday that it will take legal measures against the parties that fabricated and widely circulated this letter to serve their goals and agenda and bring them to justice.
