US imposes new sanctions on Iran targeting drones

Rhino: Agencies – The United States on Thursday imposed new sanctions on Iran targeting Iranian drones and commodities, including Russia’s use of Iranian drones in the war in Ukraine, as Washington seeks to intensify pressure on Tehran.

The sanctions, imposed in co-ordination with Britain and Canada, target more than a dozen entities, individuals and vessels the Treasury Department said in a statement on Thursday, accusing them of playing a role in facilitating and financing the secret sale of Iranian drones to the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support, which Washington says supports the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Russia’s war efforts in Ukraine.

The Treasury Department said Washington also targeted two companies and a vessel involved in shipping Iranian primary commodities.

“Iran’s Ministry of Defense continues to destabilize the region and the world by supporting Russia’s war in Ukraine, the unprecedented attack on Israel, and providing terrorist proxies with drones and other dangerous military equipment,” said US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson.

“The United States, in close coordination with our British and Canadian partners, will continue to use all available means to combat those who fund Iran’s destabilizing activities.
