Number of Victims of Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigades Iftar Bombing Rises to 15

Rhino: agencies, the number of victims of the bombing that targeted the Iftar of the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigades on Wednesday has risen to 15, including civilians.

A drone of unknown origin targeted an Iftar Ramadan organized by the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade – affiliated with the Islamic movement – in the city of Atbara, north of the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Initial statistics had reported 10 deaths as of Tuesday evening.

A video clip showed the bloodstains in the Iftar hall located in the middle of the city and the damage to the surrounding buildings.

Medical sources told Al-Quds Al-Arabi that the number of victims of the operation has risen to “15”, including civilians from the families of the fighters.

The number of wounded exceeded 50 – some of them in critical condition – and they were transferred to the military’s medical weapons hospital, the police hospital, and the Atbara government hospital.

The invitees to the Iftar included former soldiers who were injured, families of fighters who were killed during the war that has been going on in the country for about a year, and civilians loyal to the Islamic movement.

The city of Atbara, located in the Nile River State, northeastern Sudan, witnessed a wide deployment of regular forces amid a state of panic among civilians.

Fears are growing of the spread of fighting to the city, which shelters thousands of civilians displaced from conflict areas.
