Dr. Abdullah Ahmed Al-Naeem, Professor of International Law and Human Rights at American Universities
Rhino: Khartoum, , condemned the description of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as “foreigners” and “new settlers” by the pro-army war media.
He said in an interview with “Rhino” “These are discourses that the ruling elite in the center have been repeating in order to marginalize or further marginalize large segments of Sudanese people in different parts of the country. These are discourses that I reject and do not agree with.”
He added: “Every person who was born, raised, and currently lives within the Sudanese geographical and political borders is a Sudanese citizen who deserves full citizenship rights and has all its obligations.”
Al-Naeem pointed out in an interview with “Rhino” – to be published later – to the existence of common tribes across all Sudanese borders, explaining that the tribes in Darfur, for example, are connected to Chad, Central Africa, and South Sudan, while there are Sudanese tribes that have extensions in Ethiopia, Eritrea, Egypt, and others.
He added: “The mistakes began when the educated elite harnessed themselves to serve sectarian parties. What is happening now is the process of demolishing a state that has already eroded and failed, not a project for a new secession.”
He considered the current war to be a fundamental turning point in the history of building the Sudanese state, describing the “popular mobilization” as “alleged”, and said: “It is the last malicious means that the crumbling Salvation regime is exploiting to survive and retain power at any cost.”
