Wall street journal: Sudan Buys Weapons from Iran at Doha Arms Fair

Rhino: The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that Sudan has purchased weapons from Iran during the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) held in Qatar this month.

The newspaper quoted unnamed Sudanese officials as saying that Khartoum bought drones and anti-tank missiles from Iran.

The value of the deal and the specific types of weapons purchased were not disclosed.

The revelation comes amid rising tensions between Sudan and Israel, with Israel accusing Sudan of allowing Iran to transfer weapons through its territory to the Gaza Strip.

Sudan has denied these accusations, saying it is committed to UN Security Council resolutions that prohibit the transfer of weapons to the Gaza Strip.

Iran has not commented on the Wall Street Journal report.

If confirmed, this deal would be the first major arms deal between Sudan and Iran in years.

The deal is seen as a significant development in relations between the two countries, especially in light of Iran’s recent rapprochement with some Arab states.

Sudan is facing a severe economic crisis, which raises questions about its ability to finance this deal.

The deal indicates Sudan’s desire to strengthen its military capabilities, especially in light of the escalating tensions in the region.

Iran is a leading arms manufacturer and has close ties with several Arab countries.

The deal is expected to draw angry reactions from Israel and the United States.
