Sudan Officially Notifies South Sudan of Halt in Oil Transportation Due to Pipeline Rupture

Rhino: Khartoum, On March 16, 2024, Sudanese Oil Minister Mahjoub Mohamed Salih informed his South Sudanese counterpart, Awow Daniel Chuang, that Sudan is unable to fulfill its commitments regarding the transportation of crude oil through its territory. This is due to “severe ruptures” in the pipelines in some areas.

The “eye radio” website, which specializes in South Sudan news, reported that the pipeline ruptures occurred in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in northern White Nile State. The village is located 20 kilometers south of the town of “Qattaina”, near the frontline between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF in White Nile State.

According to “eye radio,” Sudanese Oil Minister Mahjoub Mohamed Salih sent a letter to the South Sudanese government informing them of these developments. He stated that an engineering team had been dispatched to the area to resolve the issue, but the situation remains the same due to the ongoing military operations.

The Sudanese Oil Minister stated that these problems, which are beyond the control of the Sudanese government due to the war conditions, have led to the official announcement that the transportation of crude oil through the pipelines to Port Sudan is “not possible.”

He added: “The engineering teams of the oil companies are unable to work in the processing stations and oil fields under the control of the Rapid Support Forces due to the complex security situation.”
