Sudanese Human Rights Observatory: Dozens of Civilians Arrested by Islamist Battalions Loyal to the Army

Khartoum: Rhino – On Tuesday, the Sudanese National Human Rights Observatory revealed the arrest of dozens of civilians by the battalions of the Islamic movement fighting alongside the army. The Observatory stated that some of the detainees were subjected to beatings, insults that violated human rights, and threats of execution, as happened in the locality of “Rabak” in the White Nile State, which is under the control of the Sudanese army.

A video circulated on social media on Monday showing soldiers from the army severely beating a detained citizen in the city of Rabak in the White Nile State.

The Observatory indicated in its statement that civilians have been subjected to beatings, torture, killing, and mutilation of their bodies by extremist organizations fighting alongside the Sudanese army throughout the country.

The statement stated:(We express our deep concern about the serious violations that innocent citizens are subjected to by these extremist groups, and we call on the international community, human rights and international organizations to condemn these acts that target the Sudanese people in large parts of the country. We hold the Sudanese army and the Islamic battalions fighting within its ranks responsible for the safety of civilians, and we urge them to stop the violence and killing of unarmed citizens in respect for human rights in areas of armed conflict).
