US Envoy to Sudan Launches African Tour to Seek Ways to End War

Khartoum – March 10, 2024 – The US Special Envoy to Sudan, “Tom Priello”, announced the start of an African tour in the region, in his first activity since his appointment. The tour aims to hold meetings with Sudanese people, African partners, and others who can help end the war in Sudan.

This tour comes amid intensive consultations conducted by the African Union High-Level Mechanism with Sudanese parties inside and outside the country, to restore stability and constitutional order in Sudan.

 “Priello” seeks to end the conflict in Sudan, avoid further violations, and promote accountability for crimes. He is also aims to empower Sudanese civilian leaders by supporting the democratic transition process.

He seeks to gain regional support for resolving the crisis in Sudan, through coordination with other African countries.

“Priello” is expected to meet with representatives of the Sudanese government, opposition leaders, civil society representatives, and leaders of African countries, and discuss ways to ceasefire, start peace talks, and form a transitional civilian government. he is expected also to submit a report to the UN Security Council on the results of his tour.

“Priello”‘s tour comes at a critical time for Sudan, as the country faces a major political and economic crisis. It represents an important opportunity to revive the peace process in Sudan and achieve stability in the country.
