RSF Welcomes UN Security Council Resolution Supports Ramadan Ceasefire

Rhino: khartoum – March 9, 2024 – The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has welcomed UN Security Council Resolution 2724, which calls for a cessation of hostilities in Sudan throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The RSF expressed hope that this initiative will significantly contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people by ensuring the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid and enhancing the mobility of civilians.

The RSF affirmed that this resolution represents a crucial opportunity to initiate serious talks that can catalyze a political track. This track should lead to a permanent ceasefire, promote security and stability, and achieve a substantive solution that addresses the fundamental issues of the historical crisis in Sudan. The RSF believes that the ultimate goal should be to rebuild the nation on new, just, and equal foundations.

The RSF clarified that its support for this resolution stems from a deep moral duty towards the citizens and aligns with its firm stance against war. This support demonstrates its commitment to alleviating the suffering of the people and ensuring the swift delivery of humanitarian assistance, especially in areas where civilian access to aid is deliberately obstructed.

The RSF pointed out that when acknowledging this resolution, it is also necessary to draw attention to the wrongdoings and historical actions of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the extremist militias of the National Congress Party (NCP), which are associated with the former regime. Their long record of committing atrocities and breaking agreements, particularly by violating all humanitarian ceasefires agreed upon during the ongoing conflict, must not be overlooked. This is attributed to the fragmented nature of decision-making within the SAF and the terrorist militias of the former regime.

Embracing the proposed humanitarian ceasefire, the RSF expressed its readiness to participate in discussions on establishing mutually agreed-upon monitoring mechanisms. These mechanisms are crucial for ensuring the effective implementation of the ceasefire and achieving the humanitarian objectives intended by this resolution.
