Sudan: Government Approves Flow of Humanitarian Aid through Chad

Rhino: The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Nkeita Salami, announced on Tuesday that the Sudanese government has notified the UN of its approval for the flow of humanitarian aid through the Republic of Chad.

In a press statement, Salami said, “I was informed today that the Sudanese government will facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid from Chad through the Tena border crossing.”

Salami explained that this development comes after intensive efforts by the UN with the Sudanese government to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need in Sudan.

She noted that the Tena border crossing had been closed since October 2023, which led to a severe shortage of humanitarian aid in some parts of Sudan.

Salami confirmed that the UN will work to return its humanitarian convoys to the road as soon as possible, in coordination with the authorities and relevant parties.

She said, “We have no time to waste. There is an urgent need for humanitarian aid to save lives and help those affected by conflict and the economic crisis in Sudan.”

Salami expressed her gratitude to the Sudanese government for approving the flow of humanitarian aid through Chad.

She called on all parties in Sudan to work together to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches all those in need.

Salami stressed the need to protect civilians and ensure respect for human rights.

The UN hopes that humanitarian aid will contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people.
