Photo of Sudan’s national team captain sparks controversy on social media

Khartoum: Rhino – A photo of the Sudanese national team captain “Ramadan Ajab”, after the team’s victory over Ghana in the qualifiers for the African Nations finals, sparked anger among social media pioneers, and some considered it as fueling the war in Sudan and consolidating the division among society, by declaring the national team captain’s clear bias towards one of the parties to the conflict.

A photo of Ramadan Agab imitating obscene gestures by army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, which he made in the context of inciting his fighters and the battalions of the Islamic Movement allied with him to fight, was widely condemned by Sudanese at home and abroad, as it carries connotations of fueling the war and entrenching hatred, racism and division among Sudanese.

Although Burhan’s gestures have been widespread among supporters of the war and the media of the army and the Islamic Movement for weeks, the Sudanese national team captain’s imitation of them was widely condemned, assuming that the national team is what brings people together. Social media users recalled the role of Ivorian soccer player Didier Drogba in ending the civil war in Ivory Coast, and compared his stance to that of Ramadan Agab, who is working to fuel the flames of civil war in his country.
