Chadian Opposition Leader Yaya Dillo Killed in Clashes

Rhino: agencies – Chadian media outlets reported on Thursday, February 29, 2024, the death of Yaya Dillo, the leader of the “Socialist Party Without Borders.” Dillo was killed after being injured in clashes between security forces and party supporters. His death comes two months before presidential elections scheduled to end the country’s three-year transition period.

Dillo’s death was preceded by the killing of the party’s financial secretary during a security forces siege on the party’s headquarters. This led party supporters to attack the intelligence headquarters on Wednesday, where further clashes took place and Dillo was injured.

On Wednesday, the Chadian government issued a statement announcing the arrest of Dillo and others on charges of inciting the attack on the intelligence headquarters and attempting to assassinate the country’s Chief Justice.

Dillo had denied any involvement in the February 19 attack on the Supreme Court, condemning it as a “setup” and pointing out that the court is protected by at least three companies of gendarmes.
