WHO: Conflict transition to Aljazeera state forced us to suspend our work in Sudan

Rhino – Agencies: The World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Ahmed Al Mandhari, said that the deterioration of the security situation in Al Jazeera state forced the organization to suspend its work, and warned that health conditions in Sudan are worsening, in light of the conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army, and that Sudan is “forgotten in the map of global conflicts.”

Al Mandhari added in his statements to the Arab World News Agency that with the beginning of the fighting between the rapid support and the army 9 months ago, especially in Khartoum and some areas of Darfur, the WHO used the Al Jazeera state, specifically the city of Wad Madani as a logistical center, then followed by other UN organizations.

He said: “With the intensification of the conflict on the island, it became very dangerous for health workers; whether for workers from the Ministry of Health or from international organizations, the WHO decided to stop its operations, in order to preserve the lives of workers”.
