Al-Arab newspaper: Al-Burhan evades a UN offer to facilitate the flow of aid to those affected by the war

Rhino: Agencies – The Al-Arab newspaper in London said on Saturday that the Sudanese government (loyal to the Sudanese army) denied that General “Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan” agreed to hold a meeting with the commander of the Rapid Support Forces, General “Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo” under the auspices of the United Nations, to discuss facilitating the access of humanitarian aid for those affected by the war in Sudan.

The United Nations announced on Wednesday that the main warring parties in Sudan agreed to hold a meeting may be held in Switzerland to discuss the issue of aid delivery.

The UN Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Martin Griffiths, said he had made contacts with Al-Burhan and Dagalo regarding a meeting between representatives of the warring parties on the issue of aid. During a press conference, Griffiths confirmed that the parties agreed to the meeting, and they expressed their happiness with this step.

According to Al-Arab newspaper the observers see that denied of the government to what Griffiths said is consider as an “evasion” from Al-Burhan of any commitments to the humanitarian crisis which the country is suffering, as happened with peace efforts.

The commander of the Rapid Support Forces has previously questioned the army’s approval of UN efforts, saying on Thursday that “the current leadership of the armed forces may reject this step, because it never cares about the suffering of the Sudanese, declaring his readiness to enter into a bilateral agreement and cooperation with competent international organizations and agencies to save civilians in areas controlled by his forces.
