Britain Participates in Third Wave of Strikes on Houthi Targets in Yemen

Rhino: Britain announced on Saturday its participation in a third wave of “proportionate and targeted strikes” against targets belonging to the Iranian-backed Houthi group in Yemen.

Defense Secretary Grant Shapps stated in a statement: “The Royal Air Force participated in a third wave of proportionate and targeted strikes against Houthi military targets in Yemen.”

Shapps emphasized that Britain took this decision in cooperation with its American allies, with the support of many international partners, stressing that it aims to defend itself and complies with international law.

US officials told Reuters earlier on Saturday that the United States had carried out a series of strikes on targets in Yemen.

The nature of these targets or the results of the strikes were not disclosed, but they come amid rising tensions between the Houthis and the forces supported by the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea have increased recently, prompting the United States and Britain to take military action against the group.

The United Nations continues its efforts to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis, which is considered one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.
