South Africa advances to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations

Rhino: 31 jan 2024 – South Africa advanced to the quarter-finals of the (2024) Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Morocco (2-0) in a match held on Tuesday evening as part of the round of (16) of the tournament.

South Africa’s goals were scored by Themba Zwane in the 22nd minute and Thabiso Monyane in the (90+5th) minute.

As a result, South Africa will face Cape Verde in the quarter-finals of the tournament on Saturday.

Striker Percy Tau contributed to South Africa’s qualification to the quarter-finals, as he started the match and played the full 90 minutes.

Tau is considered one of the best players in the South African national team, and he played a major role in the team’s qualification to the round of 16, where he scored a goal against Tunisia and assisted a goal against Mali.

The Moroccan national team left the Africa Cup of Nations after losing to South Africa, losing the chance to win the title for the third time in its history.

Morocco’s early exit is a major surprise, as it was considered one of the favorites to win the title, after qualifying for the round of 16 as the leader of Group Three.

Percy Tau commented on the historic victory over Morocco, saying: “It is a beautiful thing to win against Morocco without conceding any goals.”

He added: “We are happy to qualify for the quarter-finals and we will fight to continue in the tournament.”
