The Security Cell in Omdurman Summons Two Members of the Teachers’ Committee

Rhino: Follow-up – The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee revealed today, Thursday, that the security unit in Omdurman summoned two of its members in connection with the teachers’ strike in Khartoum State, now in its third week, as part of the “long-term strike campaign” announced by the committee.

According to a statement issued by the Teachers’ Committee today, the security unit summoned two committee members: Al-Nayer Al-Tarifi Hamad Al-Nil and Muhammad Adam.

The statement held the authorities fully responsible for the teachers’ safety and for what it described as “the consequences of these actions.” It demanded an end to the summonses and security crackdowns, as well as respect for the right to organize and strike, calling on teachers to remain united and stand firm in defending their rights.

The statement read:(Instead of addressing the catastrophic conditions facing education and teachers, the authorities are resorting to intimidation, fearmongering, and restrictions on union activities in an attempt to deter teachers from demanding their legitimate rights).

It continued:(It is worth noting that Mr. Mohamed Adam has a broken leg that has kept him bedridden for over a month; despite this, he was taken to the headquarters of the Security and Intelligence Service in the Omdurman district on the pretext of inciting a strike).
