Rhino: Follow-up: Several areas in Al-Jazirah State witnessed housing evictions marred by widespread violations against women by security forces, including whipping, dragging women across the ground, threats of rape, and verbal abuse, all intended to force the owners of the demolished homes to leave the area, according to eyewitnesses.
A video circulated on social media on Wednesday in which two women who were victims of the evictions spoke about crimes committed against women during the demolition of targeted homes by those she described as “the soldiers,” referring to the government forces that carried out the evictions.
Halima Abdullah, one of the victims of the eviction, said:(The soldiers were beating a pregnant woman with a whip while dragging her by the feet and dragging her along the ground to forcibly remove her from her home. When she told them she was pregnant and that beating and dragging her along the ground endangered her life, they said they would take responsibility for whatever happened to her).
Another woman in the video added:(They asked us where the men were, so we told them they were at work. Then they said, ‘Any whore who protests tonight, we’ll take her out.’” They beat us with whips and hurled the vilest insults at us to force us to flee our homes without taking our belongings. They demolished the houses along with the furniture, and kept beating us while shouting, ‘Run, run!’ But we will not flee our homes—we have nowhere else to go).
She continued:(We can endure the demolition of our homes and the furniture inside them, but we will not tolerate women being whipped, dragged across the ground, and threatened with rape. We are victims of injustice, and we want justice).
