Human rights organizations Condemn the Demolition of Citizens’ Homes in Dongola

Rhino: Follow-up – The Al-Kanabi Conference Central Committee and the Organization for the Defense of Darfur Victims condemned the decision issued by the Dongola Local Security Committee in Northern State on August 14, 2026. The decision gives residents one week to remove and demolish their homes.

The two organizations quoted residents of the Dongola locality, in the Salim Sabreen neighborhood of the East Dongola unit, as saying they were taken by surprise by the decision, which leaves some 5,000 families—or about 11,000 citizens—homeless.

In a joint statement, the organizations described the decision as unjust and tantamount to forced displacement, based on the justification that the area is “informal,” asserting that the decision violates citizens’ rights to housing. The organizations stated they will challenge this decision through the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the judiciary.

The statement called on civil society organizations to work to immediately halt the demolition order to prevent the displacement of residents of the Al-Sabirin–Salim neighborhood in Northern State.
