Rhino: Agencies – The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a session next Monday, January 6, 2025, to discuss the repercussions of the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
Monday’s session will be held under the Algerian presidency of the Security Council for the month of January. In January, the Security Council is expected to dedicate a session during which the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, will present his semi-annual briefing on the court’s activities related to the Darfur region.
Algerian diplomacy has not prioritized the situation in Sudan, despite its stated support for the Port Sudan government, although Algeria voted in favor of the British draft resolution, which was strongly opposed by the government in Port Sudan.
The council has dedicated a number of sessions in 2024 to discuss war developments and the humanitarian situation in Sudan, the most recent of which was a ministerial-level session chaired by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on December 19.
