Rhino: Follow-up – The United States announced that additional sanctions against the Port Sudan Authority regarding the military’s use of chemical weapons will take effect next Monday, July 20, after the three-month deadline expired without Port Sudan being able to present evidence to clear its name. The sanctions will remain in effect for one year and are automatically renewable.
The additional sanctions include a ban on loans, financial assistance, and technical support to Sudan through development banks and international institutions—with the exception of food and humanitarian aid—as well as a ban on the export of goods and technologies to Sudan and the implementation of an extremely strict review policy for sensitive goods based on the principle of “presumption of denial.” It also suspends all licenses for Sudanese state-owned airlines and permanently bars them from flying to and from the United States.
