Rhino: Follow-up – Under the slogan “No to the Trial of Consciences,” Sudanese activists and human rights advocates have launched a national campaign to support Dr. Ahmed Shifa against the Al-Baraa Bin Malik militia, which filed the complaint in a case in which Ahmed Shafa was accused of causing demoralization among fighters, of which the Dongola Court had previously acquitted him, before the prosecution yielded to threats from the commander of the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigade, Al-Musbah Talha, and the Dongola Court issued a decision to retry him, bowing to the wishes of the militia, which is designated by the United States as a terrorist entity.
The National Campaign to Support Dr. Ahmed Shifa launched a media campaign last Saturday, which is set to continue until justice is served and the truth regarding the circumstances and allegations surrounding the case is clarified, including what the campaign considers to be unlawful interference or influence on the course of justice by the Al-Baraa bin Malik Brigades, according to a statement issued by the campaign on Sunday.
The statement emphasized that the campaign’s goal is to defend the right to a fair trial, the rule of law, and the independence of the judiciary, and to reject any interference or bias that might affect the integrity of judicial proceedings. It called on all active Sudanese forces, as well as defenders of justice, democracy, and peace, and all those who believe in building a nation that accommodates everyone, to actively participate in this campaign in defense of freedom of opinion and expression, and of every citizen’s right to a fair and independent trial in accordance with the law.
