Report Documents Airstrikes on Civilians in Darfur

Rhino: Agencies – A human rights report has documented a systematic pattern of airstrikes and drone strikes on civilian areas in Darfur, accusing the Sudanese army of carrying out attacks that may amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law. The report was released by the TRP project, which documents attacks that took place between November 2024 and April 2026 on markets, hospitals, displacement camps, schools, homes, weddings, and commercial areas in Darfur.

The report attributes most of the documented airstrikes and drone strikes to the Sudanese army, while also accusing the Rapid Support Forces of carrying out attacks on civilian sites, including camps for internally displaced persons in El Fasher.

Among the incidents highlighted in the report is an airstrike carried out by the army using a drone in December 2025 on Katila in South Darfur, which eyewitnesses reported killed more than 100 civilians attending a public gathering, including women and children. The report also documents an airstrike in April 2026 on a wedding celebration in Kutum, which reportedly killed between 40 and 56 people.

The report explains that these attacks have had long-term humanitarian consequences, destroying health facilities, markets, schools, and commercial centers, disrupting livelihoods, and causing widespread psychological trauma among civilians living under the constant threat of airstrikes.
