Khartoum: Rhino – Egyptian authorities released Babiker Faisal, head of the Executive Office of the Federal Gathering and a leader of the “Sumoud” Alliance of Civil Democratic Forces, this evening after detaining him for several hours at Cairo Airport while he was departing for another destination this afternoon.
According to sources close to “Rhino,” Faisal’s detention took the form of procedural checks and scrutiny of his travel documents by airport authorities, before he was questioned on other matters that the source declined to disclose.
Babiker Faisal is considered one of the most prominent Sudanese political figures active in the civil movement seeking to end the war and restore the democratic transition in Sudan. His latest trip is part of a series of meetings and overseas visits organized by civil forces to discuss the current Sudanese crisis and its humanitarian and economic repercussions.
