Rhino: Agencies – Reuters’ fact-checking service has confirmed that the satellite image that went viral on social media with a caption claiming it shows land covered in the blood of the city’s residents after Rapid Support Forces took control of it in October 2025 is misleading. It shows buildings on fire in the Zamzam camp for displaced persons in El Fasher, Sudan, in April 2025.
Local and Arab media outlets, including Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya, shared the image, claiming it showed land drenched in the blood of the city’s residents after Rapid Support Forces took control of it.
Users on social media platforms shared the image with a misleading description saying: “Satellite image of land drenched in the blood of the people of El Fasher in Sudan.” However, according to Reuters, the image shows damage to the Zamzam camp for displaced persons in El Fasher after Rapid Support Forces took control of it in April 2025.
