Khartoum: Rhino – The Emergency Lawyers Group condemned the bombing carried out by an army drone this morning, May 19, 2026, which targeted a local market in Ghibish, West Kordofan State, while it was crowded with citizens, resulting in the deaths of 28 civilians and injuries to dozens more.

The Emergency Lawyers Group held the army fully responsible for this crime, asserting that the established facts of this attack, within the context of the repeated targeting of markets, create direct legal liability and constitute additional elements in a record of accumulated violations, thereby strengthening the legal basis for holding those responsible for these acts accountable.

Ghibish Market is one of the main markets on which hundreds of thousands of civilians in West Kordofan and neighboring areas rely for food and basic commodities. This attack represents a continuation of an approach based on the use of collective pressure as a tool through intimidation and starvation, coupled with the imposition of food shortages and rising prices for basic commodities.
