Sudan Founding Alliance condemns remarks by AU Commission Chairperson

Khartoum: Rhino – The Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) denounced today, Saturday, the statements made by the President of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mohamed Ali Youssef, which are completely contrary to the position of the AUC since the coup of October 25, 2021, according to which Sudan’s membership in the AU was suspended, and also contradicts the declared role of the AUC as a mediator in stopping the ongoing war in Sudan without taking sides with any of the parties to it.

The coalition said in a statement today: “We read today the statements of Mr. Mohamed Ali Yusuf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, following his meeting with one of the leaders of the Islamist army, who participated as a representative of this army and stole the name of Sudan and its people – as usual since the coup of October 25, 2021, followed by their ignition of the war of April 15, 2023 – to participate in the 34th Arab Summit meetings held in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.”

The statement read: “We believe that what Commissioner Mohamed Ali Yusuf did is a blatant violation of the charters and laws of the Union, especially the Lomé Declaration, the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and the African Charter for Democracy, Elections and Governance, which criminalizes military coups and imposes sanctions on regimes that overthrow democratic rule, which applies to the Port Sudan authority led by the terrorist Islamic Movement, following which Sudan’s membership in the African Union was suspended after the coup of October 25, 2021.

His statements on the sidelines of the Arab Summit, in which he glorified what he called the control of the Sudanese army, “and we do not know what control he is talking about,” confirms his clear bias towards the terrorist Islamic Movement army gang, in a position that lacks neutrality and objectivity.”

The statement adds: “We note here that the delegation accompanying Mr. Mohamed Ali Yusuf included among its members the ambassador of the dissolved National Congress regime and the terrorist Islamic Movement, Yusuf Ahmed Al-Tayeb Al-Kardafani, who was previously dismissed by the Empowerment Removal Committee during the transitional period following the glorious December Revolution, which ended the National Congress rule and restored hope for our peoples in a new Sudan that they have long dreamed of.”

He continued: “We in the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS) confirm that we will continue to expose the plans of this terrorist organization and all those who aligned and cooperated with it against the interests of Sudan and its people, and our coalition forces continue to confront the terrorist brigades who falsely and falsely call themselves the ”Sudan Army”, or other terrorist brigades and those who allied with them.
