Authorities in El Obeid Carry Out Widespread Arrests in the City; Cases of Forced Displacement on the Rise

Khartoum: Rhino – The Sudanese National Human Rights Observatory stated that El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, is witnessing widespread arbitrary arrest and forced detention campaigns carried out by security forces, amid escalating systematic violations against civilians, which has caused waves of forced displacement among citizens out of fear of direct targeting and security crackdowns based on false accusations of collaboration or treason, without any fair legal procedures or safeguards to protect individuals’ fundamental rights.

The Sudanese National Observatory for Human Rights strongly condemned the systematic targeting campaigns carried out by security agencies and the Sudanese army against civilians. In a statement, it called for an end to all forms of arbitrary arrest and forced detention, for those responsible for these violations to be held accountable, and for the protection of civilians and the preservation of their dignity and fundamental rights.

It added: “These practices constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by national laws and international human rights conventions, exacerbate the suffering of civilians, and drive more families to leave their homes and seek safe refuge far from intimidation and ongoing violations.”
