A humanitarian aid convoy was struck by Sudanese army drones in the Kartala area of South Kordofan state on Thursday, on Thursday, killing three people and injuring four aid workers as it was heading to cities in the Kordofan region, which is considered a hotbed of fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, according to local humanitarian sources speaking to Sky News Arabia.
Aid organizations have reported an increase in attacks by army drones in recent times, hampering relief operations and causing harm to civilians, despite the army’s announcement that it had taken control of the area and lifted the siege on Kadugli and Dilling. At least 77 civilians have been killed by drone strikes in the states of Kordofan over the past ten days.
“On Wednesday, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk expressed grave concern following reports that more than 50 civilians were killed in drone strikes in Sudan over two days last week.
According to the UN, at least 57 civilians, including at least 15 children, were killed between Sunday and Monday in separate drone attacks in four Sudanese states.
Turk said the killings were a reminder of the devastating consequences of drone warfare in Sudan, where civilians and civilian infrastructure are being targeted.
The UN added that 28 civilians were killed on Sunday in a drone strike allegedly carried out by the Sudanese army on the Al-Safia market in Sudri, North Kordofan state.
The following day, 26 civilians were killed in West Kordofan state in a suspected army strike on a shelter for displaced persons in the Sinut area.
Tork said: “The ongoing attacks by all parties on civilian objects must stop. The parties must take urgent measures to protect civilians, including refraining from the military use of civilian objects.”
