International Pressure Pushes Sudanese Army Commander Toward a Settlement

Khartoum: Rhino – Bakri al-Jak, the official spokesperson for the Alliance of Civil and Democratic Forces, said that the Sudanese army has expressed a willingness to enter into negotiations.

Al-Jak added in press statements that there is information indicating contacts between the army and Washington aimed at reaching a humanitarian ceasefire, noting that this step could pave the way for a broader peace process.

The official spokesperson for the Sumud Alliance noted that Security Council sessions over the next few days may feature extensive discussions on mechanisms to monitor any potential ceasefire, as well as the role of international actors in ensuring compliance and implementation on the ground.

Al-Jak explained that recent regional and international moves, including visits by Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to Saudi Arabia and a number of other countries, as well as the tours of U.S. envoy Masad Pauls, come in the context of the political momentum that followed the Berlin Conference.

He added that the Quartet mechanism remains the most effective channel for advancing de-escalation efforts or reaching a peaceful settlement, paving the way for subsequent political arrangements.
