Rhino: Agencies – The Ethiopian government has decided to revoke the accreditation of three Reuters journalists following the publication of a report alleging the existence of a “rapid support forces training camp” inside Ethiopian territory.
This decision comes days after the Ethiopian authorities expelled the agency’s correspondent from the country, following the expiration of the deadline given by the Ethiopian government to Reuters to issue a formal apology for the controversial report, which Addis Ababa considered inaccurate and damaging to the sovereignty of the state.
The Ethiopian authorities emphasized that these measures were taken as part of their commitment to managing information related to national security and protecting the country’s sovereignty from reports they described as “misleading and not based on reliable evidence,” while stressing their commitment to freedom of the press, but within the framework of respecting national laws and professional standards.
Informed sources revealed that official parties in Sudan and Egypt were behind providing Reuters with misleading and unreliable information, which was used in drafting the controversial report. The sources confirmed that what happened is part of the ongoing political and diplomatic conflict in the region and attempts to use the international media to serve specific agendas”
