Two regional sources and a Sudanese political figure confirmed that a high-level Iranian diplomatic delegation held closed-door talks with Sudanese military leaders in Port Sudan, including Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The sources stated that the meetings, which were not publicly announced, focused on bilateral relations and potential areas of cooperation.
A Sudanese source added that the meetings also included figures linked to the Islamic Movement in Sudan, including individuals such as Ahmed Haroun. In recent months, Iran and Sudan have sought to restore relations after years of strained ties, amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Some regional media outlets and political sources indicated that the talks included discussions on reviving previous military cooperation agreements and the possibility of establishing an Iranian naval facility on the Red Sea coast.
