Emergency Lawyers: One Civilian Killed and Another Injured in Army Attack on Sudri, North Kordofan

Khartoum: Rhino – An army drone targeted herders at a water source in the village of Al-Bukariya in Wadi al-Malik area of the Sudri locality in North Kordofan state this morning, killing Al-Reih Al-Faki and injuring Hamid Amas, in addition to killing a number of head of livestock.

The Emergency Lawyers Group condemned the attack, and held the army fully responsible for the resulting human and material losses, asserting in a statement on Thursday that targeting civilians, herders, and water facilities constitutes a grave violation of the rules of international humanitarian law, which oblige parties to the conflict to distinguish between civilians and military targets and to take necessary measures to protect the civilian population from the effects of hostilities.

The statement read: “This incident comes in the context of a continuous series of attacks by army drones that have targeted civilians in the localities of Sudri and Hamra al-Sheikh in North Kordofan State, where the frequency of these attacks has escalated since the beginning of June, in a recurring pattern that has resulted in the killing of 38 civilians over the course of ten days, in addition to targeting daily activities and sources of livelihood).
