U.S. Embassy in Sudan: Attack on Al-Da’ein Hospital Is a Clear Violation of International Humanitarian Law

Khartoum: Rhino – The U.S. Embassy in Sudan condemned the attack that targeted the Al-Da’ein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur, which killed at least 64 people and injured about 100 others, stressing that targeting a medical facility constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law.

The embassy said in a statement that the hospital was completely out of service following the attack, depriving residents of essential medical services at a time when the health sector has suffered widespread deterioration since the outbreak of the war in April 2023. It added that the attack is part of a series of assaults on health facilities, noting that more than 2,000 people have been killed as a result of over 200 attacks on medical facilities during the same period.

The embassy called on both sides of the conflict to immediately cease hostilities and accept a humanitarian truce to allow for the delivery of aid and to alleviate the burden on civilians.

Army forces targeted Al-Dhayn Teaching Hospital with drones on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, killing at least 64 people, including 7 women and 13 children, as well as a doctor and 8 healthcare workers, according to a preliminary toll that included at least 89 injured, according to local medical reports.
