Urgent Appeal From the Director of Al-Da’ein Hospital to the International Community
To all international and humanitarian organizations concerned,
I write to you in my capacity as the Director General of El Daein Teaching Hospital in East Darfur, Sudan, to urgently bring to your attention a grave and tragic incident that requires immediate international intervention.
Our hospital has been subjected to a drone airstrike carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces, in a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and an act that constitutes both a crime against humanity and a war crime. This attack has resulted in the death and injury of innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as medical personnel who were performing their humanitarian duties under extremely difficult wartime conditions.
Targeting healthcare facilities is among the most serious violations, as hospitals are protected entities under the Geneva Conventions. Any attack on such facilities poses a direct threat to civilian lives and undermines the entire international humanitarian system.
Accordingly, we call for the following:
Immediate and unequivocal public condemnation of this attack.
Urgent measures to ensure the protection of healthcare facilities and personnel in conflict zones.
The establishment of an independent and transparent international investigation to document this crime and hold those responsible accountable.
The provision of urgent medical and humanitarian support to restore hospital operations and ensure the continuity of lifesaving services.
We confirm that we possess photographic and video evidence documenting the scale of this catastrophe, and we stand ready to share all relevant information and fully cooperate with any investigative or response mechanisms.
The humanitarian situation has reached a critical level and requires immediate international action to prevent further loss of life and to safeguard the principle of medical neutrality.
