Rhino: Agencies

The US State Department on Monday designated the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood as a specially designated global terrorist group and intends to designate it as a foreign terrorist organization, effective March 16, 2026.

The US State Department added in a press statement today: “The Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood uses unbridled violence against civilians to undermine efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan and spread its extremist Islamic ideology. Its fighters, many of whom receive training and support from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, have carried out mass executions of civilians. The Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood’s Al-Baraa Brigade was designated under Executive Order 14098 in September 2025 for its role in the brutal war in Sudan”.

It continued: “As the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, the Iranian regime has financed and directed malign activities globally through the IRGC. The United States will use all available tools to deny the Iranian regime and branches of the Muslim Brotherhood the resources necessary to engage in or support terrorism”.
