US warns of expansion of pro-Iran networks in Sudan

A Facebook page for supporters of US President Donald Trump’s election campaign said that statements made by Sudanese army fighters about their readiness to defend Iran highlight, in its words, the spread of radical Islamist networks supported by Tehran.

The page added that this “reckless” announcement reflects what it described as the dangerous spread of these networks, which it said threaten stability in areas beyond the Red Sea.

It warned that Sudan could become another front in what it called the “growing axis of resistance,” noting that fragile states could become a platform for exporting fighters and prolonging conflicts.

This came in a post titled: “Oh my God! The Sudanese army pledges to defend Iran: We will send battalions against any ground invasion.”

The page noted that this offer represents, in its words, “a disturbing reminder” of the possibility that extremist regimes and their allies could exploit situations of chaos to target the United States and its allies.

It added that amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, a Sudanese military commander announced his country’s readiness to stand by Iran, saying: “We are ready to defend Iran, and we will send our battalions to fight alongside them if their enemies decide to send ground forces.”

The page also mentioned that the Sudanese armed forces have deepened their relations with Tehran in recent years, noting that they have received Iranian military support, including drones and weapons, in the war against the Rapid Support Forces.
